Art & Creativity can be the doorway to your soul.

In our era of "screens" and our young people's attention being constantly solicited online it is more important than ever to protect creativity in our children's lives.  Their attention is constantly being pulled towards the inauthentic, the commercial and the staged.

I believe that it is essential -  to be able to sit quietly, without stimulation - and to be present, in order to feel to true happiness and inner peace.  Our own creative ideas flow easier when we can hear and feel ourselves clearly.

 

  I have taught meditation  young people who begin by saying that it will be difficult to just sit still and close their eyes.  They learn very quickly to sit and feel their own presence, and are always delighted to know that they can change their experience of the present moment easily.    Imagination, Art, Creative Writing, Performance and Expression are all brilliant conduits for helping us to become more present.  I believe that Creativity creates Presence, and Presence creates Creativity.

I have taught a series of workshops to children whereby they experience a short meditation and either draw, paint, write, move, perform or speak afterwards.  It brings me joy to see how easily children can shift gear and really imagine freely - in full presence.  Below you can see some photos of work with children in Brazil  and lower down on the page you can listen to some of the creative meditations I created as well.
